How to make the Right Skin Tightening Technique Choice

How to Make the Right Skin Tightening Technique Choice

Skin sags and wrinkles are never fun. We all want to get rid of them as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, that desire to tighten your skin right away can lead you down the wrong treatment path, if you aren’t careful. Like most things in life, skincare is a thing that takes time and effort. Before you can make the right skin tightening technique choice, you need to know what your options are and how your skin works.

The Causes of Wrinkled and Saggy Skin

Before you can worry about treating, or even preventing, sagging skin and wrinkles, you need to know why they form in the first place. They can be caused by things like years of poor diet, cigarette smoking, or exposure to the sun. Chemicals and other environmental factors can also play a role. But even if you live a relatively healthy lifestyle and wear plenty of sunscreen, you can still have problems with wrinkles and sags eventually just because our bodies make less of the healthy “building blocks” of skin health as we age, including elastin and collagen.

Why Skin Treatments Aren’t Universally Successful

Another thing you need to be aware of is the fact that not all skin treatments are universally successful. In other words, there is no single type of treatment, such as the use of aesthetic skincare devices that will work on every single person. First of all, everyone has different skin features, and second, all of the devices designed for skincare are different from one another. That’s why it’s important to find the right combination.

One example of a bad combination is dark skin and chemical peels. The chemicals used to perform chemical peels contain bleaching agents. Those materials can make the skin in the area that is treated a few shades lighter than the skin in the surrounding area. That doesn’t happen as much to those with lighter skin tones, but it may be a big problem if your skin is dark.

Many Mild Skincare Treatments Work for Most Skin Types

There are plenty of mild skincare treatments that can safely be used in most cases. If you have dark skin, the trick is to focus mainly on treatments that won’t impact the top layers of your skin, which is where all the melanin is that creates skin pigment.

Examples of mild treatments that may be successful at tightening dark skin include non-ablative laser treatments (those that target lower skin layers only), sound wave therapies, and certain intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments that don’t involve heat producing light frequencies like those found in lasers.

Be Careful When Choosing from More Intense Clinical Treatments

Many more intense skincare treatments are only useful for tightening a person’s skin with minimal side effects when they are used on very specific skin types. So, when you are looking into clinical treatments, be careful to investigate each one fully. Treatments like microdermabrasion and injections can be very beneficial to some people, but they can be problematic for others. The same is true of many laser treatments. But, if you consult an expert, you should be able to weed through the choices and find the best way to treat your sagging skin.
