5 Summer Accessoires to Change up your Look

When it comes to summer fashion, there are all kinds of fun prints and cuts to try out. With flowing maxis and bohemian patterns galore trending, it’s too fun trying on new sundresses and tops. Although you can go crazy and get all kinds of new summer styles, if you’re not careful, most of what you buy can end up looking like a lot of the same. It happens to the best of us. We get carried away when buying summer clothes not only because they’re so cute, but also because we’re excited for summer in general. But not to worry — even if you bought two of the same dress in the same color (hey, we all make mistakes), there are some simple ways to make your outfits look a lot different than each other. There are these things we like to call accessories…ever heard of them? Accessorizing is your key to wardrobe versatility, and with all kinds of exciting summer accessories on the market, you’ll have a blast sprucing up your sundresses and creating an Instagram-worthy personal style. Here are some summer accessories that will easily transform any outfit.

Choker Necklace

This year, it’s all about the ’90s. If you haven’t already noticed, choker necklaces are “all the rage,” like this article points out. If you want to change up the style of your dress, a choker is a great way to add some edginess thanks to the extreme grunge looks of the ’90s. But if grunge isn’t really your thing, try layering more necklaces on top of the choker at varying lengths to create a cool, boho look.

2. Neck Tie

A little bit retro and a little bit fabulous, tying a scarf or handkerchief around your neck in an off-center knot is an ultra-femme way to bring new life into an outfit. Try it with a strapless or off-the-shoulder top to get the full effect — bright colors and patterns are encouraged!

3. Bucket Hat

Also coming back from the ’90s is the bucket hat trend. A lot of people were probably hoping this style would never resurface, but, alas — it’s back. Luckily, there are some spins on the style that make the look a bit more wearable and versatile to mix in with your summer outfits. As you can see in this trend report, Zac Posen for Brooks Brothers made this style easily pairable with preppy outfits without feeling like a throwback.

4. Statement Sunnies

Sunglasses are a must during the hot months, so why not find a few pairs that are funky just as much as they are functional? Opt for cat-eye frames if you’re feeling feminine, and when you want to amp things up a bit, get some larger-than-life mirror frames with geometric details. If you’re going to be wearing sunnies a lot of the time, you might as well make them fun to look at!

5. Cool Sneakers

One last way to change things up for your summer wardrobe would be to wear some kicks with your breezy summer frocks. Wearing sneakers is not just for athletes anymore; in fact, it is a trend gaining huge momentum in women’s fashion! There is a great sneaker collection here, and if you keep snooping, there’s lots of outfit inspiration from celebs and fashion bloggers around the world.
